Browser extension removed automatically

Hi All,

I’m not sure if I’m the only one facing this issue or if others are experiencing it as well. I created an automation more than 6 months ago, and it was running smoothly. However, recently the automation started stopping unexpectedly. When I debugged it, I found that there was no active Chrome profile, and the required extension was also missing.

When I reinstall the extension and create a Chrome profile, the automation works fine for the next 2–3 days, but then the extension gets removed automatically again. This time, I did not create a separate Chrome profile; instead, I installed the extension on the default profile. It worked for some time, but the same issue occurred again.

@Allan_Zimmermann Could you please help me understand why this is happening and how to fix it?

Thank you!

No, sorry.
But i remember someone else, who reported that the chrome extension would “uninstall itself” but there is no way that neither OpenRPA or the chrome extension it self can do that, so have to be something “external”, but I don’t know what that might be. Maybe an anti virus system that thing having access to all websites is “too much” ?

Hi Allan,

Thanks for your response. I understand that OpenRPA or the Chrome extension itself cannot uninstall the extension, so it does seem likely that something external is causing this behavior.

To help narrow this down, could you please advise if there are any known environmental factors that commonly lead to this issue—such as Chrome enterprise policies, antivirus/endpoint security tools, group policies, or profile cleanup scripts?

This machine is part of a managed environment, so it’s possible that security software or policy enforcement is removing extensions with broad permissions. If there are any specific permissions, extension IDs, Chrome policy checks, or logs you recommend verifying, that would be very helpful.

Please let me know what details I can share from my side (Chrome version, extension ID, policy output, antivirus details, etc.) so we can identify the root cause and apply a permanent fix.

Thanks for your help.
